Every New England region shares one system — the same maps, the same live radar, the same climate record. The only New England state with no coast, and it forecasts like it. The Green Mountains split the state in two: the Champlain Valley is milder and drier in the lee of the Adirondacks, while the spine holds the snow that makes Stowe, Sugarbush and Killington, and the Connecticut River valley on the east side runs its own colder mornings. Tropical systems still reach here — Irene in August 2011 washed out more than five hundred miles of state road in a single day.
